Innova House supports health care students

Innova House, Centre for Brain Injury Rehabilitation, in Mansfield reinforced its commitment to supporting local health and social care students after sponsoring one of the main awards at the West Nottinghamshire College Healthcare Awards.

More than 100 students from the College’s health, care and education school of learning, joined leading health care professionals at the annual awards ceremony, which took place at Mansfield Civic Centre.

Students collected certificates ranging from entry level all the way through to Level 3 from their last academic year with the College.

Innova House, which runs a work experience programme in conjunction with the College and also employs a number of its ex-students, sponsored this year’s work placement award, which was won by Cassidy Andrews, with Carla Grundy as runner-up.

Asha Khemka OBE, principal and CEO of West Nottinghamshire College, presented a number of special awards, including the Alison Dawes awards, in honour of healthcare lecturer, Alison Dawes, who passed away in 2005.

The West Nottinghamshire College Healthcare Awards recognise those students that have completed their training and are moving on to further education or careers in the health service, childcare related rolls or the private care industry.

Commenting on the awards ceremony Steve Koban, CEO of Innova House, said:

“I am delighted to be part of the College’s Healthcare Awards, which are a great advertisement for all the hard work put in by its health and social care students.

“We fully support the work of the College; this is the second time that Innova House has sponsored one of the categories; we also take students for periods of work experience and employ College graduates.

“In fact, we are extremely proud that ex-student, Rachel Guthrie, who is now team leader at Innova House, won the Care Newcomer of Year Award at this year’s Great East Midlands Care Awards.

Janice Hill, associate director for learning in health, care and education at West Notts College, said:

“This annual event is where we get the opportunity to say well done and thank you to our students who are now ready to go on to further study or employment.  They really are a credit to the college as well as our local community.

“Many of our students go on to have successful careers in the health service and in childcare-related roles, as well as working within private care institutions. Higher education is also a popular option for many our learners.”
