Innova House staff are top of their game
Innova House, Centre for Brain Injury Rehabilitation (CBIR) in Mansfield, is celebrating after two members of its team scooped top awards at the inaugural Great East Midlands Care Awards.
Team leader Rachel Guthrie and premises assistant Hayley Pell were presented with their awards at special gala dinner, hosted by BBC weatherman Des Coleman, which took place at the East Midlands Conference Centre in Nottingham.
Rachel, (21), scooped the award for Care Newcomer. She joined Innova House after completing her studies at West Nottinghamshire College in Mansfield and at just 20 years old, became the centre’s youngest team leader.
Judges said that Rachel demonstrated that she was a top performing student at College and showed real interpersonal skills and a passion for her service users to reach their full potential.
Hayley (46), who joined Innova House in 2008, won the Ancillary Care Worker of the Year Award. As premises assistant at the centre, she provides a number of key services, including general house-keeping, audit, health and safety and staff training.
Hayley impressed the judges with her enthusiasm to her task and demonstrated her ability to combine the requirements for health safety and hygiene with the opportunity to create a homely environment for people living at Innova House.
The Great East Midlands Care Awards are regional awards designed to celebrate excellence and promote best practice within the care sector and pay tribute to those individuals who have demonstrated outstanding excellence within their field of work.
Commenting on Rachel and Hayley’s success, Steve Koban, CEO at Innova House, said:
“I would like to congratulate Hayley and Rachel for their achievements in their respective categories. Both play a significant role in the operation of our organisation and both fully deserve their awards.”
“Hayley is a popular figure with the whole team and is someone that people across all levels of the organisation can identify with. She is our unsung hero and the final piece of the jigsaw that completes the team.
“There are not enough superlatives to describe Rachael. At 20 she was Innova House’s youngest team leader. Everyone she comes into contact with, from hospital consultants, psychiatrists and psychologists to physiotherapists and line managers, praise her highly.
Hayley said:
“I get so many personal rewards from doing my job, and was delighted to have even been nominated for the award, let alone win. I would like to thank the judging panel for recognising my work with this award.
Rachel added:
“The most rewarding thing about my job is seeing improvements to service users as they work through the rehabilitation programmes and empowering service users to do more for themselves in order to improve their lives. Winning this award is the icing on the cake.
The Great East Midlands Care Awards
The Great East Midlands Care Awards are part of the Great British Care Awards - a series of five regional care awards throughout the UK. The awards are a celebration of excellence across the care sector and are managed by the team behind the Ceretas National Home Care Awards, a high profile annual event for the home care industry.
The purpose of the awards is to promote best practice within both home care and care homes sectors, and pay tribute to those individuals who have demonstrated outstanding excellence within their field of work.
The winners from all the regional awards will then be invited to attend the National Events for either Home Care or Care Homes sectors at the prestigious London’s Guildhall, in May and June 2010
